All Spas You can Think of: What Spa is Right for You?

Spas run the gamut, catering to different activities and featuring a range of amenities. All spas are meant to improve you, but not all spas are just places to go and relax. Some spas are focused on health and wellness, and others are focused more on beauty.

With so many differences between all spas, how do you know which one will be right for you? From medi spas and health spas to day spas and weight loss spas, here’s a quick guide to understanding what each type of spas does best and which one you should learn more about.

Medi Spas

Medi spas, med-spas, ormedical spas are a great way to get relaxing treatments along with some quick non-surgical procedures to benefit your body, not offered at all spas. Medi spas are hybrids between a relaxation spa and a medical clinic, and they operate under the supervision of an MD.

Many of these spa clinics also employ other medical professionals, like nurses and aestheticians that can perform elective non-surgical and cosmetic treatments. For example, at a medi spa you can get a massage as well as laser hair removal, electrolysis, waxing, and more. You can receive a wide range of services from a medi spa that you can’t receive at all spas.

Day Spas

Day spas are what most people think of when they think about all spas. Essentially a day spa is an establishment that offers beauty and wellness treatments, but unlike a destination spa, day spas can be located just about anywhere, not just in vacation spots.

Typically a day spa is a place where you can make an appointment for facials, massages, waxing, and other body treatments, but you don’t typically stay the night or weekend. Day spas are for quick treatments, but generally offer all the same treatments all spas offer.

Health Spas

Although medi spas and day spas — and all spas, for that matter — offer wellness and relaxation services, a health spa is a little more specialized. Health spas are generally destination spas where you can go for a weekend or a longer period of time.

Health spas offer a wide variety of activities, treatments, and classes or clinics that are designed to help you live a healthier lifestyle and teach you about eating right and staying fit. They are different from most all spas because while they offer most of the regular spa treatments, like facials, massages, etc., they also include meals and classes.

Weight Loss Spas

Weight loss spas are also different from most all spas because they are specifically focused on weight loss. Most weight loss spas are designed for extended stays of 4 days to a month or more, depending on your weight loss goals.

At a weight loss spa, you’ll be paired with a trainer and dietician who will design a weight loss program for you, based on your weight, level of activity, health, and more. Over the course of several days or weeks, you will learn how to work out, how to eat right, and how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Not all spas are right for all people. But if you know what you need to get out of a spa experience — a quick facial or lessons on a healthier lifestyle — now you’ll know which type of spa is right for you.
