Spahub: Castle Hill Resort and Spa Castle Hill Resort and Spa was constructed at the turn of the 20th century as a private mansion for Allen M. Fletcher, governor of Vermont from 1912 to 1915. This Victorian-style stone structure preserves the high level of luxury and craftsmanship for which it was known in Fletcher's day. Interiors feature original 1905 wallpaper as well as many antique lighting fixtures and sycamore woodwork. Also reminiscent of an earlier time is the ornate oval-shaped dining room, which resembles the private clubs of the early 20th century. The 8,000-square-foot (743 square meters) spa is located in what used to be the mansion's carriage house. Spa-goers can now enjoy eight treatment rooms, a fitness center, spa cuisine, gender-segregated saunas, and a heated outdoor pool. The property is situated amidst acres of New England forestland that provide a natural spectacle in autumn. In winter, Vermont skiing culture dominates on-site, fueled by the resort's close proximity to Okemo Mountain Resort (just minutes away by car). Views of the mountain add to the ambiance of guest accommodations, most of which are equipped with a decorative fireplace and a four-poster bed draped in fine linen. In warmer months, Vermont's Green Mountains offer a wide variety of hiking and mountain biking trails, three miles of which can be found on property. In addition, guests can take advantage of special wellness getaways designed to help them address individual health needs. Because of its mountain scenery and Victorian atmosphere, the resort is a popular locale for weddings, civil unions, and other formal events.
