The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa

Built in 1913 to attract well-heeled vacationers to its location high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this historic resort and spa is a well-known North Carolina landmark. Among the personages known to have spent the night here are Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Though a complete renovation took place in 2001, adding an underground spa and expanded sports complex, the property remains vitally linked to its history and locale, so much so that it has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. A granite facade and red clay tile roof match The Grove Park Inn to its rugged surroundings. Inside, guests encounter two 14-foot-wide fireplaces, a cavernous lobby, and handcrafted furniture in Arts and Crafts style. The Grove Park Inn has remained true to its original conception as a mountain getaway with a wide range of fine dining options, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and an 18-hole championship golf course. Organized children's programs allow parents to enjoy pampering spa treatments as well as peace of mind. Outdoor enthusiasts will thrill at the spectacular mountain views, which can be enjoyed from a bicycle or hiking trail.
