What to know about spa services

If you've never been to a spa, you might wonder what all the fuss is about. What's so great about those places anyway? Well, honey, you've got a lot to learn. In fact, there's almost too much to love about spas. Get out there and try some spa services for yourself. Then, you'll rave about them too.

Lots of factors play into a spa experience. Location, price, products, deals and the friendliness of the staff all play a big part in making or breaking a trip to the spa. But the spa services are what really matters at a spa, and if done correctly, they'll convert any skeptic into a spa believer.

Spa treatments are designed to melt the stress away from your body without any work from you, so they're pretty much foolproof ways to feel better. There's no better way to learn about spa services than to try them out for yourself, but if you want to know what you're getting into before your walk in the spa door, keep reading.

Most spas offer a standard menu of services with only a little variation, so once you get a treatment at one venue, you'll know all about what that service will be like elsewhere too. Let's start with massages. These are the trademark of spa services; you'll find them at any kind of spa establishment.

The most basic massage is the Swedish, which is a gentle, surface-level back rub that's perfect for beginning spa clients. If a spa only offers one kind of massage, chances are it's a Swedish. However, there are plenty of other massage varieties out there including aromatherapy, deep tissue, Thai, shiatsu and massages designed for pregnant women and athletes. Many larger spas will provide these massages and more. All of these kinds of massage have their benefits, but it's best to stick to a basic Swedish massage at first. Some other varieties can be painful for first timers.

Another grouping of spa services is facials. These treatments focus on the face, neck and scalp; they're usually a multi-step process that involves cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin. Choose your spa's signature facial for your first experience because it should be gentle. As with massages, some facial spa services may be too intense for new spa patrons. If you like your first facial, you can proceed to more specialized face services that work to reduce signs of aging or make skin glow.

Wraps, soaks and scrubs are more specialized spa services that aren't offered at every day spa. Small establishments may not have the space to provide these treatments, which require bathing areas to be done properly. If you're lucky enough to be near a venue that does provide these spa services, don't pass them up.

All of these kinds of treatments are suitable for the most amateur spa guest because they're not at all invasive. A wrap consists of seaweed or some other substance being spread over the body for a time. Wraps help soften the skin and make it appear healthier. Scrubs are exfoliating treatments that gently remove dead skin. For a scrub, an attendant will lather your body with a personalized product and then rub it off with a natural sponge. Soaks are possibly the easiest of the spa services to enjoy. For these treatments, you just bask in a warm tub filled with scented oils and natural exfoliating substances.

If these spa services intrigue you, why not book an appointment for a treatment today? You'll never know if you like what a spa has to offer until you go and find out for yourself. But with so many blissful spa services to choose from, you'll be hard pressed to deny the benefits of a spa after you spend some time there.
