Skin Care Regimens for Healthy Skin

 
You'll find that some of the basic parts of a skin care regimen are roughly the same, even if you don't have normal skin. The products you use may be different, but caring for skin doesn't differ a lot, except in the specific products you may use and the energy you use in scrubbing or exfoliating.
 
 

Choosing a Skin Care Regimen that Works for You

Select products for your morning cleansing that have no harsh chemicals. Soaps made with moisturizing oils are gentler for your skin. Cleanse your skin gently, not aggressively, even if you are exfoliating. After you have rinsed with warm water, you can pat your skin dry and apply an SPF-rated moisturizer and sunscreen.
 
You may opt to use a separate sunscreen as well, to protect your fragile skin from the UV rays of the sun. Choose sunscreens that will not clog up your pores, especially if you have oily skin. Any dry areas of the face will benefit from extra moisturizing, as well.
 
In the evening, use your gentle cleanser once again. Apply a rich moisturizer that is specifically formulated for facial skin. Night-time means a creamy moisturizer, unless you have very oily skin. Your skin can lose water when you are asleep, so allow it to be absorbed into your skin before you go to bed.
 
You may also wish to use a scrub to exfoliate your skin a couple times a week. They may irritate your skin if used more frequently. Check out facial masks a few times a month, too, since they are helpful in tightening pores and improving facial blood circulation.

A Proper Regimen for Acne Skin Care

Skin with acne needs a lot of attention when it comes to proper cleansing. Use a gentle cleanser that will remove any excess oil, while still keeping your pores clear. You may opt to use cleansers that contain benzoyl peroxide, unless they are too irritating to your skin.
 
An astringent or toner will help fully clean off your face, along with removing excess oils. The alcohol in many of these products can dry your skin out, so use with care until you're sure about any specific product.
 
Apply your acne creams or medications if you use them. Be sure that your skin fully absorbs any creams you use.
 
The next step is applying a gel or moisturizer that is oil-free. These tend to be lighter in oils than cream products. Acne-prone skin still needs hydration. Just because it's oily doesn't mean that it's properly hydrated.

A Daily Regimen for Healthy Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you may experience signs of aging before people with oily or normal skin. Redness, fine lines, wrinkles and age spots may show up sooner than you'd like. Maintaining healthy dry skin means being sure to properly hydrate your skin, while you treat any conditions you may have.
 
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and rinse with warm, clean water. Avoid using hot water, since this can cause you to lose hydration. As soon as you have finished cleansing and rinsing, apply your moisturizer. This will seal in any moisture your skin has received.
 
Select a product labeled hypo-allergenic, so that your skin won't become irritated or flaky. Moisturizers with mineral oil or glycerin will help to keep your skin well-hydrated. If you use skin care products with anti-aging ingredients, those that include antioxidants like vitamins C and E and co-enzyme Q-10 are helpful.
 
Pat your skin dry, so that you don't irritate it or remove any moisture. You may also choose to exfoliate your dry skin once every week or so, as long as you use a product that is not abrasive. Be sure to use a good sunscreen to protect your skin from premature aging, age spots and skin cancer.

A Healthy Regimen for Oily Skin

Oily skin needs regular daily cleansing. You want to remove any excess oils but leave behind the lipids that keep your skin plump and well-hydrated. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, even if you have very oily skin. This can irritate and dry out your skin.
 
Antibacterial cleansers are helpful to use for oily skin. You may also choose to steam your face, with a large bowl of water that has just come down from full steam. Keep your skin a foot or so away from the water and use a towel covering your head to allow your face to pick up the steam.
 
Deep cleansing masks used once a week or so will help in keeping your pores clear and in deep cleaning your skin. Use gentle ingredients that won't cause any stinging. You can also add spot treatments for blemishes. Then apply your normal moisturizer and allow your skin to absorb it.

Choose a Daily Regimen for Healthy Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin does not respond well to cleansers with harsh chemicals. Your skin will probably prefer a cleanser that is free of soaps. Select a product made specifically for sensitive skin.
 
Using a good moisturizer is important regardless of skin type, but especially for sensitive skin that could be flaky or dry. Choose a moisturizer that does not include fragrances and harsh ingredients. Shea butter works well for sensitive skin, as a rule. So does avocado oil.
 
If your skin is sensitive, it is more susceptible to sun damage, and also to damage from dry winter wind. Shield your skin from all of these elements, and sunscreen whenever you head outside. Using a humidifier will help keep the air in your home or work place less dry, as well. This will help your skin from becoming too dry.
