F or many people, an ideal vacation consists of a sandy beach, bright blue water, warm temperatures, and nothing to do but relax. That's just what you'll get at the JW Marriot Resort in Cancun. The AAA five-diamond destination marries the perfect location with unbelievable luxury. In the resort complex, there are world-class restaurants, multiple pools, and even a faux coral reef. But the phenomenal spa is what really sets this Cancun hotel apart from the rest. Stretched over 35,000 square feet, the spa transforms the natural luxury of the beach resort into a lavish affair.

JW Marriott Location
The Marriot sits on a prime location in the tourist haven of Cancun, Mexico. It's located on a narrow peninsula, with the clear ocean water out front and a calm lagoon to the rear. Although there are many hotels along Cancun's famous beaches, the Marriott separates itself from the rest with his high standards of service and exquisite details. This isn't the place for a rowdy spring break vacation; instead, it's where discerning guests go to relax in style.

The Spa at the JW Marriott is graced with fantastic ocean views from its fourth-floor location. It extends into the fifth floor as well, where there is a private indoor pool area for guests to enjoy. Simply put, the massive spa is nothing short of fantastic.

The Spa Services

The Spa at the JW Marriott offers a slew of treatment options to discerning guests. Plenty of classic massages, facials, and body treatments are available, but the real stars of the menu are the services that incorporate Mayan rituals and local botanicals. Many of the most basic treatments do this; try, for example, the chocolate body treatment, which uses local cocoa to exfoliate and moisturize the body. The Mayan Herbal Exfoliation, another body treatment, also gets in touch with the local culture; it uses a blend of native herbs, oats, and oils to restore energy flow.

Besides those treatments that use bits and pieces of local culture, there is a whole section of offerings pulled directly from Mayan folklore. These treatments are inspired by customs of the native people. Try the Xtabentun Body and Face Adventure to get a taste of the style; the treatment uses a traditional anis-seed liquor to exfoliate the skin.

In the salon area of the spa, nail treatments, waxing, haircuts, and makeup applications are performed. The salon is also open to children. In fact, there's a whole children's spa menu consisting of salon services for the under-18 crowd. The spa also includes a fitness center, which holds regular group classes for a nominal charge.

The Spa Amenities

The best perk that the spa has to offer is its spectacular ocean view. Other than that, spa guests are treated to an indoor lap pool, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, a beauty shop, and a fitness snack bar. The exercise area is also inside the spa, and it includes plenty of top-of-the-line fitness equipment and a large space for aerobics.

The Spa Specialties

Any of the Mayan-inspired treatments could be considered the spa's specialty service. However, the spa itself chooses two to highlight above the rest: an exfoliating service and a traditional massage. The Ah Mun God of Corn treatment exfoliates Mayan style, with traditional ground corn and local honey. After an all-over moisturizer, skin feels fresh and nourished.

The other signature treatment at the spa is the Hunab Ku, a Mayan traditional massage. This technique, which is still performed in some local communities, combines standard massage touches with set rituals to improve energy flow. There's an interesting stomach massage segment that will be like nothing you've ever tried before. Order the massage for a taste of traditional life!
